What is the cost?
The cost for Movement Makers is $450 per person. The ticket price includes admission to both Wednesday and Thursday conference days, access to our incredible speakers, networking and interactive activities, and breakfast and lunch each day.

Who should attend?
Movement Makers is designed for leaders in the active living movement who want to change people’s health outcomes through programs, policy changes, and infrastructure improvements. Content at the conference will go beyond the academic studies and will help community health advocates who are interested in making a lasting difference through increased physical activity for real people at area schools, workplaces, and the community at large. As our health care system continues to focus a growing mountain of funds to treat illness, a chorus of preventive health-oriented organizations are uniting around phyiscal activity promotions to stem the flow of chronically ill patients who have illnesses related to inactive lifestyles. Movement Makers exists to bring this chorus together to share and learn from each other.
Who are the speakers?
Engaging and informative speakers like Natalia Valenzuela Swanson from the Mary Black Foundation in Spartanburg, South Carolina, will share what they have learned from supporting active living initiatives. You’ll hear stories about policies changed, advocacy wins, innovative school initiatives, and corporate wellness efforts. The design of active communities and policy and development guidelines will be reviewed. Don’t expect to sit in a room staring at power points all day, though! Our keynote sessions will feature conversational fireside chats, and our speakers will provide dynamic content to keep you engaged during the How-To Breakout Sessions. Submit a proposal to present at the 2017 Movement Makers: The National Active Living Summit. Share your idea and email address with us, and we’ll fill you in on submission details soon.
What are the Friday add-on sessions?
You can either select your desired add on sessions when you register, or, if you can’t attend the summit, you can sign up for them individually by completing a registration form and emailing it to email@example.com.
- 9:00am-3pm – Track 1: Workplace Wellbeing and Physical Activity Workplace wellbeing has become an important part of health promotion for companies. But what does it look like to support healthy behaviors and improve health outcomes while at work? How can employees be more physically active at the office? This one day tour and workshop will take you to nationally recognized companies in the Richmond region that have excelled at incorporating physical activity into their daily work. Visit companies to see first hand their award winning designs and hear how their efforts to incorporate physical activity have influenced productivity, insurance deductibles, corporate culture, and economics. We will end the tour at the Active RVA certified The Frontier Project for a tour of their innovative workplace, a late lunch, and panel discussion with workplace wellbeing experts on lessons learned from an evolving work culture. Don’t miss this opportunity to see physical activity in companies leading the charge from the inside! ($150)
- 9:00am-3pm – Track 2: Event Creation Workshop Events provide an amazing opportunity to showcase an active lifestyle in a community. They can help to build awareness and support for active living in a community. This one day workshop helps you learn about the pros and cons of creating new events for your community. You will learn how to assemble the details about the research and development for an event plan. Facilitated sessions will help you identify the best opportunities for your city. Experts with experience creating events will present their secrets and best practices for creating impactful events. A behind the scenes tour of Dominion Riverrock, the nation’s largest outdoor sports and music festival provides you with insight into inner workings of a major event created to promote Richmond’s riverfront. If your organization is thinking of creating its own events, weather it is a 5k run or a huge multi-sports festival, you won’t want to miss the Event Creation Workshop on May 19. ($150)
What is Dominion Riverrock?
Dominion Riverrock, organized by Venture Richmond and Sports Backers, is the nation’s largest outdoor sports and music festival, bringing athletes, spectators, musicians, and even dogs to Brown’s Island for a three-day festival against the backdrop of downtown Richmond’s urban riverfront. The festival features a variety of outdoor sports including trail running, kayaking, biking, bouldering, slacklining, stand up paddleboarding, and dog jumping.
