Johanna Ferguson, M.S., ACSM

Johanna is a full time faculty member in the Health & Exercise Science program at Jefferson College of Health Sciences and also serves as Clinical Coordinator. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from the College of William and Mary, a Master of Science degree in Exercise Physiology from the University of Tennessee in Knoxville, TN, and is currently working toward her doctorate degree in Public Health at Walden University. Johanna also instructs preparation workshops for the ACSM Personal Trainer and Exercise Physiologist certification exams  She has worked as Director of Wellness Services for the Lifetime Wellness Center in Marion, VA, personal trainer and group fitness instructor for Gold’s Gym, and formerly owned the local Stroller Strides franchise – a fitness program for moms to do with their babies. She currently co-owns Ferguson Fitness with her husband Anthony offering personal training and group programs including Spartan SGX, Star City Boot Camp, live P90X, Insanity, and Piyo. She holds the ACSM Certified Exercise Specialist and ACSM Health Fitness Specialist certifications and in addition to a variety of group fitness certifications. She and Anthony have two beautiful and energetic children ages 10 and 7. Her current research focus is on the role small fitness studios and business owners can play in promoting more physician referral and communication to further the mission of Exercise is Medicine and help end the trends of physical inactivity and obesity.
