CEO, YMCA of Greater Richmond (2017 Summit)
Tim Joyce serves as President and CEO for the YMCA of Greater Richmond, a leading nonprofit creating lasting change in the lives of 177,000 individuals throughout the community. Tim, known by many as TJ, joined the YMCA of Greater Richmond in January 2013.
Under his leadership, the YMCA has increased its community outreach through health, education and other programs. Tim has decisively positioned the Y for its next generation of growth, including executing a strong 2025 Strategic Plan that is delivering results in the areas of teen leadership, out-of-school time education, and wellness programs that fight obesity and diabetes. Among Tim’s signature initiatives is the YMCA’s year-round program at Woodville Elementary School in the city’s east end, which provides fully subsidized after-school and summer camp care to nearly 100 children.
With 16 operating branches, the YMCA of Greater Richmond has an operating budget of over $42 million and employed over 3,200 staff in 2016. The association is listed as one of the Global Centers of Excellence, which is defined as a globally-minded Y that demonstrates a commitment to infusing an inclusive and equity focused framework into all aspects of organizational planning and execution.
Tim is committed to developing the philanthropic culture that is vital to the spirit of the Y and moving the organization forward. Through community development, he hopes to bring greater awareness to the needs of the community and how the Y’s programs and services for youth development, healthy living and social responsibility can impact the well-being of adults, children, teens, seniors and families for years to come.
Tim has a wife and three sons. He is a Business Administration graduate of the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill. He also holds certificates in physical education and teaching.
